Aim and content of the study
The main objectives of the Master curriculum in Engineering Geology are:
Interdisciplinary preparation for the duties in engineering
construction, in particular both in surface and subsurface construction.
Based on the information from scientific geology the requirements of
practical civil engineering will be fulfilled according to engineering
practice.
The studies will focus on the elaboration of solutions for geo-related
problems, e.g., in power plant and traffic infra-structure
construction. Further, design, management, and evaluation of
comprehensive engineering geological investigation programs as well as
the geotechnical forecast, engineering geological documentation and the
engineering geological supervision of construction activities during
excavation will be addressed. Additional focal points are: slope
instabilities and mass movements including their geo-gene causes,
triggering, hazards, risks and stabilisation measures.
Special emphasis is laid on the education in detailed scientific field
observations and the related acquisition of techniques for rock mass
characterisation.
